Two More Pods Proposed for Fairmount!

The Fairmount Civic Association will vote on Thursday, December 6, on whether to approve PhillyCarShare's request for two more on-street "pods" that would add two new cars for the neighborhood's 542 PhillyCarShare members.

*The first proposed pod location is on the north side of Fairmount Avenue, on the northeast corner of the intersection with 23rd Street.

*The second proposed pod location is also on the north side of Farimount Avenue, at the northwest corner of the intersection with Corinthian Ave. One car would be parked here as well.

PhillyCarShare already has seven vehicles in the parking lot at 22nd and Fairmount, but further expansion in the lot is no longer possible. There is already a long waitlist for monthly parking permits in the lot. Meanwhile, membership in PhillyCarShare has almost doubledin just the last five months! There are simply not enough cars in Fairmount right now to serve us all properly. On-street expansion is necessary to continue the growth of PhillyCarShare as a convenient amenity for the neighborhood.

In order for these two pods to be added to the neighborhood, the Fairmount Civic Association must express its support for them to Councilman Darrell Clarke. The board of the FCA has decided to put the question to a vote of the general membership at its meeting on Thursday, December 6, at the The Philadelphia Mennonite School, 860 N. 24th St. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. but the PhillyCarShare portion of the meeting doesn't begin until 8:30 p.m. Please plan to get there by then!

Five new on-street pods (at 22nd and Poplar, at 22nd and Brown, at 27th and Pennsylvania, at 28th and Parrish and at 24th and College Ave.) were approved by wide margins at the Fairmount Civic Association meetings earlier this fall. It is imperative that everyone who welcomes PhillyCarShare as a positive addition to our community turns out at the December 6 meeting to express their support!
